New Amazon Prime members get a free 30-day trial to test out Prime membership benefits.
Once your trial ends, an Amazon Prime membership will cost you $14.99/month or $139 per year if you pay annually.
However, there are millions of Americans who are eligible for an Amazon Prime discount, yet they may not be aware of it.
Do You Know About Prime Access?
Amazon Prime Access memberships are half the cost of the monthly regular price, and offer the same benefits of a full-paying Prime account.
People who come from low-income families and receive certain forms of government assistance are eligible to apply.
If you’re approved for Prime Access, then you’ll only pay $6.99/month for your Prime membership account.
That’s a 50% off Amazon Prime discount and one of the best offers around.
In order to qualify, you must be enrolled in one of these programs:
- Medicaid
- SNAP
- SSI – Supplemental Security Income (This is different from Social Security and SSDI)
- Direct Express Prepaid Debit Card
- TANF – Temporary Assistance of Needy Families
- TTANF – Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
- NSLP – National School Lunch Program
- LIHEAP – Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
- WIC – Women, Infants, and Children Program
- NAP – Puerto Rico’s Nutritional Assistance card (Tarjeta de la Familia)

Amazon Prime EBT Card Holder Discount
EBT card holders must enter a valid EBT number during the sign up process, as well as upload a clear image of their EBT card.
It’s also important to note that your EBT card can not be used to pay for your membership. You’ll be asked to enter payment information for when your 30-day free trial ends and for when your $6.99 per month membership fee begins.
(You get a free 30-day trial on the Amazon Prime EBT sign up page!)
This discounted Amazon Prime membership is not a lifetime deal.
You will need to re-verify your eligibility status every 12 months. Plus, you’ll only be able to qualify for Prime Access for up to 4 years.
Nonetheless, that’s potentially 48 months of Amazon Prime at 50% off!
Amazon Prime Medicaid Discount
The Prime Medicaid discount works in similar fashion. You apply to Amazon Prime Access by uploading an image of your Medicaid eligibility letter.
Per Amazon, the document must show the issue date (must be within the last 12 months) or the expiry date (must be valid), and the beneficiary name.
Amazon will review your document to confirm eligibility. Once approved, your free 30-day Amazon Prime trial will begin.
Every 12 months Amazon will send you a reminder email to re-verify your document. You can receive the Amazon Prime discount for up to four years from the date you sign up.
Amazon Prime Student Discount
Amazon Prime Student members are in for a real treat!
Your Amazon Prime discount currently includes a free 6-month membership trial. Once your trial is over, you pay the Amazon discounted rate of $7.49/ month or $69 per year if you pay annually.
You’ll get access to all the benefits of a full-paying Amazon Prime account such as: Free One-day, Two-day and Same day Shipping + Delivery, Prime Video, Access to 100 million songs ad-free with Amazon Music, plus exclusive deals for students and more!
To qualify for the student discount you must provide Amazon with your college or university name, your year of graduation, and a valid email address that contains the domain suffix .edu.
Amazon will send you an email to the address provided for eligibility verification.
You may also be asked to provide additional verification documentation such as an image of your student ID or class transcript.
College students are defined as actively enrolled in at least one course at a college geographically located in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.

Is Amazon Prime Giving 50 percent Off for Veterans?
Amazon does not currently offer a military or veteran discount.
In the past, Amazon has offered service members and veterans an Amazon military discount around the Veterans Day holiday, but it has since been discontinued.
This is not to say that it won’t make a triumphant comeback at some point in the future. Your best bet is to stay informed on all Amazon Prime membership deals on the Prime member’s page.
Starbucks on the other hand is still offering you a free coffee on Veterans Day. I know it’s not the same, but maybe it will at least put a smile on your face. 🙂
What If You Don’t Qualify for an Amazon Prime Discount?
Shopping on Amazon is almost incomprehensible to do without an Amazon Prime membership. The convenience of it is simply too great to pass up.
You get deals on groceries with Amazon Fresh, access to Prime Day Invite-Only Deals, Subscribe & Save discounts, and so much more.
Though, if you find yourself not eligible for an Amazon Prime discount, don’t fret!
You can instead decide to go for an Amazon Prime alternative such as a Walmart Plus membership, which is about $40 cheaper per year.
The other option is to try out some of these Amazon discount hacks to save on Prime membership fees and on your Amazon purchases.
Pay Annually
Consider saving on Amazon Prime by paying for your membership fee on an annual basis. A Prime annual subscription will run you $139 per year versus $179.88 if you were to pay on a month-to-month basis.
That’s an annual savings of about $40.88 that could be put away in an investment account or saved for a rainy day fund.
Share an Account with Household Members
Amazon Prime benefits can be shared with up to 6 household members. An Amazon household can contain up to two adults, up to four teens, and up to four children.
That means that you, your spouse, and your teens who recently got summer jobs can all split the bill and share in the savings!
If it makes you feel any better, you can use this as a teaching moment to show your teens how to budget and stretch their hard earned dollars!
