Epic Universe in Orlando Opened in May 2025
Epic Universe is Universal Orlando’s newest theme park, opening to the public on May 22nd, 2025 and packed with major wow factor.
Inside, you’ll find immersive worlds like Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.
What We Did to Save Money for Our Universal Studios Florida Trip
As you may already know, this trip can get pretty expensive, especially if you’re traveling with a family of four or more.
The good news is there are ways to plan ahead that make it a lot more manageable and way less stressful on your wallet.
Here are a few things we did to help save money for our family trip.
- Purchased Multi-Day Theme Park Passes Online – You can save upwards of 20% on theme park passes when you purchase them online and in advance.
We purchased Universal 3-Day Express Pass tickets for all three theme parks, including Epic Universe. I ended up paying $1,105.46 just for my park passes as one adult.
But you definitely don’t need to go the express route like we did. You can still save by grabbing multi-day standard passes online at a discount.
- Scanned Receipts to Earn Free Gift Cards – Receipt rewards apps like Fetch give you points for your shopping receipts, which you can redeem for gift cards.
I used my Fetch points to redeem a free $50 Rainforest Cafe gift card, which we used at Disney Springs.
I also used cash I earned from scanning receipts with Ibotta to cover the rest of the restaurant bill. The rewards really add up quickly, especially when you stack a few different receipt apps together.

- Raised Funds with a Lemonade Stand – My 7-year-old nephew set up a one-day lemonade stand to earn extra spending money for the trip.
This was a fun idea and a great lesson for my nephew on entrepreneurship and budgeting. He set up shop in our neighborhood with a sign that read “Help Me Get to Disney! – $5 Lemonade.”
It worked so well that he brought in $254.70 profit in a matter of 3.5 hours!

- Earned Extra Cash with Side Hustles – From Uber eats, to mystery shopping and getting paid to browse the internet, side hustles can really help.
There are so many ways to make $50 without a job or even $100 a day from your phone.

He also wore a Mario Brothers themed shirt, a red cap, and blue shorts to complete the look.

Bringing the right things can save you money and help you avoid those mid-day meltdowns.
Think comfort, convenience, and staying cool as your top priorities. Here’s a quick list of what to toss in your park bag before heading out:
- Refillable water bottle (there are free water refill stations all around the park)
- Lightweight poncho or mini umbrella
- Cooling towel or mini fan
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sunscreen and lip balm
- Small snack packs or granola bars
- Crossbody bag or mini backpack
- Extra socks or band-aids (blisters happen)
If you plan to take a lot of videos, definitely bring a portable phone charger. I took tons of footage during our trip, and my phone battery was constantly running on low!
