Swagbucks Review 2024: My Real User Experience

In this Swagbucks review, I'll share the reasons I continue to use the free site to earn extra money from home.

Can you realistically make money with Swagbucks?

The short answer is yes, but don’t go putting in your two week notice at work just yet. While Swagbucks is a great place to earn money online, it won’t replace your job income.

How do I know?

Well, for the last 13 months I’ve been testing out the popular app to get the real deal on whether Swagbucks is worth joining or not.

Most people only earn a few bucks per hour, but I’ve found some hidden gems on how to maximize your earnings.

In this Swagbucks review, I’ll share with you my personal findings from using the money making app

See the best money making Swagbucks Deals here.

What is Swagbucks?

Swagbucks is a rewards site that pays its members for completing various online money-making tasks, such as taking surveys and playing video games.

Members earn Swagbucks points (SB points) that can be redeemed for free gift cards and Paypal cash.

The site and mobile app is free to use and offers you plenty of ways to earn money from home. New members can even create a Swagbucks login account as young as 13 years old.

So if you have a teen looking to make a little extra pocket cash, then Swagbucks is a great option for them to make money online!

Is Swagbucks Legit?

Yes, Swagbucks is a legit site that pays its members real money. To-date, Swagbucks has paid me over $2,065 in a short period of time. As a member, I’ve found Swagbucks to be a reliable and trustworthy way to earn extra cash online.

Swagbucks Review

The over 35,796 reviews on Trustpilot also seem to echo this sentiment. The general consensus according to the Swagbucks user reviews is ‘Excellent.’ Overall, there is a Swagbucks rating of 4.2 on Trustpilot.

Even still, you’ll find there are some Swagbucks bad reviews not only on Trustpilot but also on their Better Business Bureau page. Swagbucks, which is under the umbrella of the company Prodege, LLC, currently has a 3.15 rating on BBB

Some of the Swagbucks complaints are most likely due to the lower paying jobs that people may not find worthy enough to complete. Again, I’m going to be sharing with you how to maximize your time on Swagbucks so you can make more money on the site.

How Does Swagbucks Work?

You can start by registering for a free Swagbucks account on either Swagbucks.com or by downloading the mobile app. Use a Swagbucks referral code link to earn a $10 sign up bonus and get started on the right foot!

From there, you can pick and choose how you want to start earning Swagbucks points that can be redeemed for free Amazon gift cards, Starbucks gift cards, or even cold hard cash.

I recommend getting started with the highest earning featured offers list.

500 Swagbucks is Worth $5.00

1 Swagbucks equals about one cent, which makes 500 SB points worth $5.00. This means if you were to accumulate 100 Swagbucks points, the exchange rate in real dollars would be $1.00 in either free gift cards or Paypal cash.

500 Swagbucks

You can easily earn 1 SB point everyday by completing the daily poll, but that would amount to very little overall. The trick is to complete higher paying tasks that make it worth your time and earn you more money per hour.

How Much Can I Make?

You certainly won’t earn enough money to quit your day job. Though you can expect to make decent spare cash to put towards your savings or to use for discretionary spending.

To put things into perspective:

Surveys Pay: 40 – 200 SB Points

These can take you 10 – 30 minutes each to complete. So you’re looking at about $4 per hour at best. That doesn’t even include the time it takes you to qualify for these surveys.

Quick Tip: Branded Surveys is another survey site and it pays a bit more than Swagbucks.

Playing games on Swagbucks pays just about the same amount.

The points displayed may seem bigger, but you need to reach a certain level within the game in order to earn the higher SB points. That takes time to do.

I don’t want to discourage you from using Swagbucks. Instead, I want you to realistically know what to expect when you sign up.

As a Swagbucks member, I’ve been able to average $93.38 earned per month. It’s not bad considering I don’t spend more than 20 minutes per week on the site.

Needless to say, Swagbucks earns me enough money to pay for my cell phone bill each month. That’s one of the reasons my Swagbucks review leans on the positive side!

Who Is It For?

Swagbucks is best suited for teens over 13 years of age, college students looking for extra cash, and anyone who has time on their hands and could use the extra money.

If you’re like me and gravitate towards money making apps and earning passive online income with an affiliate blog, then Swagbucks may interest you as well!

14 Ways to Earn Swagbucks Points

As you can see, there’s plenty of tasks available to choose from on this list. I’ll do a quick summary of each and then give you my thoughts on whether they’re worthwhile to complete.

1. Take Surveys

Swagbucks surveys are not the best way to spend your time on the site. Some surveys will only earn you $0.25 for 10 minutes of your precious time, which in my opinion makes it not worth it.

I spent time trying to qualify for various surveys and wasted a lot of time answering questions only to get denied at the end.

The surveys I was approved for didn’t go well either. I would frequently get kicked off mid-way through the survey (glitch?), which resulted in lost time and no money. It seems other users have this same Swagbucks complaint as well.

2. Play Games

If you enjoy playing video games on your phone then this one may interest you. There’re a couple of different ways to earn.

You can install a game to your phone such as Coin Master, Bingo Pop, or Yahtzee with Buddies, and earn SB points for each new level you reach.

There’s also cash back you can earn on other mobile games for each dollar you spend on the app.

Some people report not earning much with games but there may be something we’re missing here. That’s because someone commented on my Swagbucks review video on YouTube that they’re making decent money playing games.

games that pay real money

So, maybe it’s worth looking into more. For me, I’ll pass since I’m not a fan of video games much.

3. Watch Videos

I included this next one here because I see a lot of bloggers talk about making money watching videos in their Swagbucks review. Though unfortunately, as of June 2022, this Swagbucks task is no longer available.

I think a lot of people caught on to a Swagbucks hack that allowed you to play videos in the background without you actually having to watch them.

This meant that you could earn money without watching ads, which defeated the purpose for Swagbucks and their partners.

Some people earned a good side hustle income watching videos on Swagbucks. Just take a look at one guy’s comment on the Swagbucks blog airing his dismay after stating he earned close to $1,000 a year with this one activity alone!

4. Swagbucks Live Trivia

When you download the Swagbucks app, you’ll give yourself the added perk of accessing Swagbucks LIVE Trivia. If you’re familiar with the popular HQ Trivia app game then it’s most similar to that.

With Swagbucks LIVE, you’ll answer live trivia questions for the chance to compete for a share of the cash prize pool. Even if you don’t win, you’ll still earn Swagbuck points for the questions you answer correctly. Not too shabby.

5. Discover Deals

The Discover Deals section is where I recommend you focus your time on. This is where you’ll find lucrative sign up bonus offers for all sorts of stuff. For instance, Swagbucks paid me $120 for simply signing up for a free Varo Bank account. I also earned another $100 for signing up to an Upgrade bank account.

Swagbucks Discover Deals

That’s just some of the offers available. There’s also a promotion where you can earn $75 – $100 to register as a DoorDash driver and $100 to sign up as an Uber driver.

The offers and Swagbucks promotions criteria to get paid on these do change from time to time. So just make sure you read the fine print to qualify for the SB points.

6. Upload Your Receipts

The Swagbucks Magic Receipts program works similar to how Ibotta and Fetch Rewards grocery savings apps work.

You essentially earn cash back rewards for uploading your receipts and matching them to coupons available on Magic Receipts.

I’m a huge fan of grocery receipt apps and stacking rewards for even bigger savings. Although, Magic Receipts can be a bit of a pain to use.

Oftentimes, you’ll need to reach out to customer service to help you claim an award that was missed on a receipt. Still, it works and is an easy way to earn SB points doing what you already do on a regular basis!

7. Print Coupons

Another way to turn your grocery receipts into cash is with Swagbucks printable coupons. For this, you simply print coupons from the site and show them in-store at checkout.

There’s also a few bonuses that come along doing it this way. First, you’ll earn 1 SB for every coupon you print, up to 100 SB points per day. Plus, you’ll also get rewarded an extra 10 SB points for every coupon you redeem.

Swagbucks Magic Receipts

Just keep in mind that printing coupons will cost you ink and paper. So you may want to stick with only printing coupons you’ll actually use!

(If you prefer not to print coupons or use couponing apps, then here’s another easy way I use to save on groceries.)

8. Swagbucks Button

The Swagbucks button is an online shopping browser extension that is most similar to that of Rakuten, formerly Ebates.

Once you install it on desktop, it’ll enable you to earn Swagbucks points across various sites online that offer Swagbucks cash back deals.

It’s a great way to save when shopping online, especially during the holidays when Swagbucks partnered companies are offering their biggest deals of the year.

9. Gift Card Purchases

MyGiftCardsPlus is a website powered by Swagbucks where you’ll earn cash back rewards for purchasing gift cards.

It works similar to the Fluz app, and will reward you for purchasing gift cards at places such as: Sephora, Delta Airlines, Panera Bread, Macy’s and more.

You’ll need to create a Swagbucks account first in order for your MyGiftCardsPlus purchases to earn you SB points.

I’ve used the site to double dip on gift card purchases at restaurants I frequent.

MyGiftCardsPlus Bonus

For instance, during my birthday week a friend and I were hopping around town nabbing birthday freebies in Boston. One freebie was for a free dessert at local favorite, Legal Seafoods.

So to double dip on rewards, I purchased a $100 gift card to Legal Seafoods on MyGiftCardsPlus, and received a $9 cashback reward plus $5 bonus. We dined on the cheap and I got my free birthday dessert at Legal Seafoods!

(If you like to dine out, then another great alternative to MyGiftCardsPlus is the Seated app. I’ve earned a few hundred dollars in cash back rewards so far!)

10. Referral SB Points

This is hands down one of my favorite ways to earn SB points and passive online income. For every friend you invite using your unique referral link, you’ll earn a 10% lifetime commission on that referral!

It’s a pretty sweet deal and when you think about it, it can really turn into a decent chunk of change if you invite lots of friends.

Use your social media accounts to invite as many people as you can, and you’ll reap the rewards of earning SB points whether you’re using the site that day or not.

It’s one way in which I’ve earned hundreds of dollars with Swagbucks and I do it all through an affiliate blog like the one you’re on right now!

Want to start an affiliate blog that earns you passive income? Here’s the free training that will get you started today!

11. Search Web

Swagbucks works as its own search engine and they’ll reward you with SB points for using it. I don’t use this feature much and it really doesn’t pay you many points either.

That’s not to say it’s not worth it. There are people using it and earning 1 – 25 SB points per day with Swagbucks search. Though, it’s really random how it rewards you.

Swagbucks search engine

Some days you’ll receive bonus points for random search words, which is what keeps members using the search browser.

If you want to use this feature, you can make Swagbucks your default search browser. That way, you’ll earn points for simply searching the internet!

12. Enter Swag Codes

If you want to earn free money online then look for Swag Codes. The program essentially hides these messages or specific strings of texts throughout Swagbucks.com.

They can appear anywhere and at any time. Some places where you’ll commonly find these Swag Codes include: the SwagButton, Swagbucks Mobile app, and Swagbucks LIVE.

I’ve yet to find one of these codes on my own, but thankfully there are members in the Swagbucks FB group that post the codes for you there!

13. Level Up

Swagbucks has a member recognition program that rewards you handsomely for using the site and leveling up. I’ve benefited so much from the program and have earned more per hour thanks to it!

Depending on your Swagbucks level, you’ll be recognized for your loyalty with special monthly Swagbucks bonuses.

TOPAZ Swagups

I’m currently at the Topaz level as of this writing and some of the bonus SB bonus rewards I get include: $10 bonus shopping credits, 125 SB points for my next gift card redemption, Double Swagbucks points on Gold survey completions and more.

14. Daily Bonus

In the Daily Bonus, Swagbucks will reward you a set amount of SB points for completing a series of daily activities. If you become a big Swagbucks user, then this will be a good way to earn extra points.

Though in my case, I find these hard to win on a regular basis. Many times, they include uploading a shopping receipt, doing Swagbucks searches and a few other things in order to earn the bonus.

So typically, I end up skipping these.

How Many Swagbucks to Cash Out?

Swagbucks Cash out

You can cash out your Swagbucks points for free gifts or Paypal cash with a minimum of 110 SB points. The only available redemption for this amount is a $1 Amazon gift card. The next level to cash out is 300 SB points for a $3 gift card.

The minimum amount needed to cash out to Paypal is 500 SB points, which is equivalent to $5 in Paypal cash.

Swagbucks Alternatives

There are plenty of other sites similar to Swagbucks to check out as well.

Some people have noted in their review of Swagbucks vs Survey Junkie that many of the money making sites are similar in how they reward you and pay.

I’ve listed some of these Swagbucks alternatives for you below.

Swagbucks Review: Is It Worth It?

Swagbucks is worth it if you consistently engage in the various high earning money making activities on the site and mobile app. It’s also an alternative option for teens looking to make money, who prefer to work remotely from home.
